Recently the Italians From the Depth signed a label deal with Rockshot Records. The second studio album “Moments” will be released in August. The band was founded in 2008. With the release, the musicians are rather spartan about one album (“Back To Life, 2001) and one EP (“Perseverance”, 2014). There are also two singles. Now six years of waiting for the fans are over. After various line-up changes, From the Depth now seem to have found a stable lineup. And want to really get started with their new label.

For Italian power metal bands is often feared indeed a high cheesy factor. From the Depth are a pleasant exception here. The musician power off from the first note. Even if keyboards can be heard on the opener “Immortal”, they remain discreetly in the background. The driving drums clearly dominate. Even the riffs are subordinate to this. A great guitar solo rounds off the song. The Italians rock out with “Spread Your Fire” too. The drums are played even faster here. But there are also quiet passages to be heard. And a little bass solo. A varied song. Of course, the singing of Raffaele Albanese thrones over everything. This is again typically Italian, with a classically shaped voice. “Ten Years” is a great metal anthem then. While “Streets Of Memory” sounds extremely ballad-like. I cannot say whether the instrumental and soulful interlude “Hypnos” is necessary. Especially because the real ballad will follow later. In “Forget And Survive” the synths are put a bit more in the foreground, but without being too intrusive. “Missed” is a nice melodic rock song. At the very end it becomes very soulful again. The ballad “Somewhere” is the grand finale of the album.

With “Moments”, From the Depth have produced an all-round successful album, with varied songwriting and a feel for beautiful but still mostly rocky melodies. Despite the use of the keyboard, not too much bombast was packed into the individual songs. This distinguishes them from many of their countrymen. Only the vocals, they build on the Italian traditions.
