Interview With Sailing Before The Wind

Q1) What’s your name and position in the band?

My name is Bitoku Sakamato and I’m the bassist and the last original member of Sailing Before The Wind. I also wrote all the songs.

Q2) Which genre(s) do you feel best represent your band?

I’d say we sit comfortably under Metalcore.

Q3) What was your favorite thing about writing, recording and filming the latest release?

I tried to make the song more catchy than usual, which was fun. It was also great to collaborate with Jonathan from The Unguided for the recording. This is the first time we outsourced mixing and mastering services and I’m happy with the results.

Q4) What is your favorite part about touring?

There are so many but I’d say eating ramen from each area takes the cake.

Q5) In an alternate universe where you are not a Musician, what kind of activities would you be interested in?

Novelist, I love to write.

Q6) When did you pick up your first instrument?

I started playing the piano when I was in the sixth grade which was my first instrument.

Q7) Did your school have a supportive Music Department/Teachers?

No we didn’t, so I just taught myself how to play bass.

Q8) Do you have any pre-performance rituals?

We warm up extensively because we do spins and kicks on stage.

Q9) What do you think the Music Industry needs right now?

The metalcore I’ve always loved is not just music that plays 0s, nor is it something you can just stand on a standing still. I think they need more of a stage presence on top of their riggage.

Q10) What’s next for you?

There are no plans for a tour, but we will still be releasing new songs this year for sure.
