Carry The Day ‘Perspectives’ EP

Album Review By Adam McCann

Independent Release/Pop/Punk/Alternative Rock

Californian rockers Carry The Day (CTD) have managed to cause quite a stir online with the release of ‘Perspectives’ their debut EP by playing a strain of pop/punk fused with alternative rock.

‘Perspectives’ has all the quirky, enjoyability beats and vocals that appeals to fans of the golden age of pop/punk, tracks such as ‘Someone Else’ and ‘Better Days’ are easy to listen to and enjoy, quickly becoming memorable with simple melodies and hooks having all the likeability of Death Cab For Cutie, You Me At Six and All Time Low. But, unlike a lot of pop/punk that is often successful, but disposable; CTD manage to add an element of integrity and musicianship that is often overlooked within the genre. For example, the track ‘See Clear’ features an excellent legato guitar solo that is straight out of the John Frusciante Red Hot Chili Peppers songbook, whilst ‘Perspectives’ roars with an undercurrent of something a little more scathing and heavier than the average pop/punk track.

CTD have released a decent EP and it will continue to push this band in the correct direction. However, enjoyable nostalgia can only go so far, and it will be interesting to see whether the band can build on ‘Perspectives’ with a full-length studio album.
