Crazy Lixx ‘Forever Wild’

Album Review By Adam McCann

Frontiers Records/Hard Rock/Glam Metal/Sleaze

It is possible to smell the liquor on the horizon every few years when Crazy Lixx roll out of Sweden bringing their good time, party rock n’ roll to the world. This year has the band triumphantly returning to the stage following their ‘Ruff Justice’ album with their latest album ‘Forever Wild’.

Anyone expecting Crazy Lixx to up sticks and suddenly change direction or sound will be shocked to find that with ‘Forever Wild’, the band stick exactly to what they know and that is not a bad thing because this band know what they’re doing and they do it really well. ‘Forever Wild’ has the profound ability to remind us that somewhere it is always possible to walk down Sunset Strip in 1986. Yet, whilst ‘Forever Wild’ worships heavily at the altar of Dokken, Mötley Crüe and Ratt, there is also large influences from the Swedish hard rock scene that give this album an overall Scandinavian feel. Unfortunately, when Crazy Lixx lost Edd Liam and Andy Zäta in 2015, it was feared that there would be a significant song writing void that may never be replaced. However, the addition of Chrisse Olsson and Jens Lundgren has easily filled this void,  bringing a dynamic to the band that has previously been unexplored with tracks such as ‘Terminal Velocity’, ‘Weekend Lover’ and ‘(She’s Wearing) Yesterday’s Face’ all having the hunger of a youthful Bon Jovi before the influence of Desmond Child, whilst ‘Love Don’t Live Here Anymore’ could have easily fit in amongst ‘New Jersey’.

Yet, as enjoyable and memorable as this album is, there is a huge part of it that almost feels like a guilty pleasure, it is dripping with so much cheese that it would go well with a bottle of wine. But, who cares?! Go on, get this album on, crack open the wine and give no fucks by cranking it up loud because that’s how you enjoy this album!
