TUNIC RELEASE VOLCANIC STANDALONE SINGLE “DULL ACHE” – LISTEN HERE!

In the age of mass technology empires like Google, Meta or Amazon, every single move a person makes is tracked and measured. Where you are, what you click on and even what you say. Tunic’s new track “Dull Ache” explores these concepts. It was recorded and produced in October 2022 with Drew Riekman (Blessed) at No Fun Club (Winnipeg, Manitoba), mixed by Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets (Pawtucket, Rhode Island) and mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering (Chicago, Illinois). Listen HERE!

The band’s vocalist David Schellenberg explains,” I feel like the song shows our growth as a band and as overall songwriters, it’s really the first song we ever wrote front to back with Tomas (Ingham, new bassist) and shows a slightly new direction for the band, instead of an onslaught of punishing noise and 2-minute sprints of songs DA is restrained when it needs to be, and explosive when it needs to be. Lyrically the song explores the concept of data mining and just generally how with the internet, you are always tracked and your actions are being measured constantly.”

In fall 2021 Tunic released their sophomore album, Quitter via Artoffact Records. The album hit several end-of-year lists including Exclaim Magazine’s “25 Great Canadian Albums You Might Have Missed in 2021” and Flood Magazine’s “15 Albums from 2021 That You Should Know.” It also saw coverage from Northern Transmissions, Decibel, Invisible Oranges, New Noise Magazine, Echoes and Dust and had features on The Strombo Show, SiriusXM The Verge, CBC Radio, Idobi Howl and also charted on Earshot! for 17 consecutive weeks.

MORE ABOUT TUNIC:
Formed in 2012, Winnipeg’s Tunic was borne of spite — formed after being told Schellenberg “wasn’t good enough” for another band. Abandoning someone else’s dreams for his own, Tunic sought out a sound inspired by the melodic approaches of Quicksand and Superchunk, venom and heartache in Converge and calculated instrumental prowess behind Cult Leader. Releasing their debut 7” in 2015, Tunic has since charged across the globe relentlessly, zigging and zagging as part of more than a dozen jaunts in North America and Europe, as well as tagging shows with a varied lot that includes names like Ken Mode, Single Mothers and even Hank Wood and the Hammerheads. Tunic’s bloodlust for the road has caused some turnover in membership, not to mention bouts with tinnitus, hangovers and exhaustion.
