Cell 9 come from the Swedish capital Stockholm. The year of foundation is given as 2015. One year later, the debut album “The Devil’s Feast” was released on their own. After that, not much was heard from the band for some time. Only in 2018 and 2020 a single each was released. Now, six years after the debut, the successor was released, under the significant name “Second Coming”.

With “Louder Than War”, the Cell 9 really get going. In this riff-heavy song, the vocals and the short choruses are particularly striking. Torbjörn Weinesjö has a voice with a high recognition value. “Now (My Faith Will Carry On)” is in the same vein, but a bit heavier and faster. “I Am” invites you to headbang at first. During the vocals, the tempo is slowed down a bit. “Kings Of Our Time” is very rhythmic. The heavy riffs are very much in the foreground. During the vocals, often the same happens as before. A slight tempo dragging. “Somewhere” is very melodic with clean guitars. A beautiful power ballad. You can quickly sing along to the chorus. Towards the end there is a very good guitar solo. “Miracles, I Believe” then provides more power. This continues with “Not Left Alone”. Here the guitars seem to want to gallop away. Then it gets doomy with “Dawn To Light”. The final track is “Game Of Shadows”, where the trio once again goes at a high speed. Here, too, there is a good but also quite short guitar solo.

“Second Coming” is a very solid second album. And one can almost speak of a successful comeback (after six years). Most of the songs are based on strong riffing. The sound could be a bit more powerful for my taste. The Swedes can build on this album.
