Another Power Metal band from Italy is setting out to conquer the Metal world – Frozen Crown.

That’s what I wrote five years ago about the debut album “The Fallen King“. In the meantime, “Call Of The North” is the fourth album by the Power Metal band Frozen Crown from Northern Italy. However, only the creative duo Federico Mondelli / Giada Etro are left from the founding days. “The Italian band comes back stronger than ever” cheers the label. So, can the band keep up the high level on the fourth album in six years of band history and increase it further? I will try to answer this question in the following.

The title track “Call Of The North” kicks off the album. And shows how stormy it can be in the north. Since the band’s debut, I have been thrilled by the powerful voice of singer Giada Etro. Nothing changes on the fourth output. Thrash elements meet tight Power Metal here. With “Fire In The Sky” Frozen Crown swing themselves up into Speed Metal realms. Awesome guitar runs and a female singer who easily goes along with this musical perforce ride. Drums and bass provide the rhythmic basis. Also “Black Heart” continues at a high tempo. Epic choruses provide an anthemic character. Reminiscent of the great deeds of Blind Guardian. The beginning of “Victorious” offers a ballad-like breather. But this is only the calm before the storm, because after about two minutes the guitars roar again and the drums boom. Back to High-Speed Power Metal with a hymnal orientation is “In A Moment”. On the other hand, “Legion” is again a mixture of Speed and Thrash Metal. “Until The End” starts a bit quieter again. But soon it’s all happening here too. Classic Power Metal. Just like “Now Or Never” afterwards. Here, however, at a higher speed. And then it comes, the beautiful Metal anthem. Although “One For All” starts contemplatively at first, later great Epic strikes and everything in the midtempo range. The seven-minute monumental work “Far Away” closes the album. This is more or less the summary of the musical range on this album.

With “Call Of The North”, the Italians have actually managed to surpass themselves. “Winterbane” was already an excellent album. And this one is a consistent further development! Musically, they are on a par with the great Power Metal bands. The tours with Elvenking and Dragonforce as well as the appearances at Metalfest and Sabaton Open Air have strengthened the band and raised it to a higher level.
