Overt Enemy

‘Inception x Possession’

Confused Records

Thrash Metal

FFO: Slayer, Warbringer, Havok, Hatchet

Overt Enemy blasted onto the Texas thrash scene back in the first half of the last decade before launching their debut EP ‘Inception’ in 2018. This jab of thrash was following by a quick right hook last year with another EP ‘Possession’. In these strange Covid times, Overt Enemy, like every other band has been forced to hunker down and have released ‘Inception x Possession’.

If you haven’t already guessed it, ‘Inception…’ is the amalgamation of the band’s first two EP’s. This is certainly good news for those people who never had the chance to pick up Overt Enemy’s frankly excellent EP’s as what the band offered with this was top quality old school style thrash that would make fans of Slayer grin with glee. Obviously, the Slayer influence runs deep here, hell, the band even deliver a top notch cover of ‘At Dawn They Sleep’; but Overt Enemy are far from just Slayer clones, tracks like ‘Blood God’, ‘Political Cancer’ and ‘In the End We Died’ thrash just as hard as any thrash band in their prime. Furthermore, what the listener gets as well as two EP’s combined is the addition of a plethora of instrumental versions of the tracks to digest, although ultimately, these are surplus to requirements.

Fans of thrash who missed out on being able to acquire Overt Enemy’s catalogue have now been given another chance to get their teeth into this band with ‘Inception…’ being a welcome addition to any thrash collection.
