The Foreshadowing
Forsaken Songs

For many years it was quiet around the gothic doomers of The Foreshadowing. The last album “Seven Heads, Ten Horns” was released in 2016 and apart from two single releases there was no sign of life from the Italians. But now they are back with the “Forsaken Songs”. Founded in 2005, the band has released four albums so far. Tours and appearances at various festivals are on the credit side. I could see The Foreshadowing live at the Metal Over Malta Festival 2016.

The opener “We The Others” is no longer fresh but previously unreleased. Recorded in 2019 – 2002, it is to be put on the band’s new album. Dark sound and the impressive voice of Marco I. Benevento characterize this song. “Memento” was also not previously released, apart from the single from 2022. Was actually planned for the 2012 “Second World” album. The current version was re-recorded in 2022. The sound fits exactly to the song before. And could well be a candidate for the new album. “The Forsaken Son” was already featured on the aforementioned “Second World” and was re-recorded for the EP. A very piano-heavy, quiet track. “Paranoid Boyd” was previously released digitally (2018). After Spoken Words, a powerful Doom sound is heard. Is Synth Pop compatible with Doom Metal? Yes, if you rearrange the old Talk Talk song “Such A Shame” in the way the Italians did. And the closing song “The Rains of Castamere (a Requiem for Wolves)” should be familiar to every Game of Thrones fan. From the credits of the episode “Blackwater” (season 2, episode 9). In this version you can hear all the gloom and sadness of the betrayal of Robb Stark.

Finally, a sign of life of the Goth/Doom veterans. And an extremely successful one. This increases the anticipation for the announced fifth studio album of the band.
