Mountain Eye – ‘Roads Uncharted’

Mountain Eye are a Dutch quintet whose music is steeped in the deep nostalgia of the nu-metal and alternative metal movement of the late 90’s and early 2000’s with their debut ‘Roads Uncharted’ ready for imminent release.
But is it time to dust off those baggy jeans, adidas tracks, find that chain and cut that hair? The answer is no; yes there is a longing for the past here, but what Mountain Eye manage with ‘Roads Uncharted’ is to adapt that nu-metal metal sound already lain down by bands such as Linkin Park, Disturbed and Sevendust and expand on it by dropping many of the cliched aspects that made the nu-metal scene so bloated by the turn of the millennium. The band achieve this by dropping any hint of rapping or DJ influence and instead develop a sound that would appeal to any fan of Linkin Park’s early work with vocalist Arthur giving a really good imitation of Chester Bennington during ‘Diamonds On Your Tongue’, ‘Misery’ and ‘Singularity’. However, ‘Roads Uncharted’ is not all Linkin Park soundalike and there are elements here of the lighter side of Korn and Spineshank coupled with the melodic nature of Sevendust and even Incubus during ‘Y(our) Masquerade’, whilst the song ‘Take Control’ delivers a Disturbed style scat vocal delivery in parts
Unfortunately, there is nothing here that hasn’t been heard before. Yet, that does not take away from the album and ‘Roads Uncharted’ is a lot of fun, especially when cranked loud. Any fan of the nu-metal/alternative metal sound definitely check out Mountain Eye with ‘Road Uncharted’, it isn’t perfect, but it is an excellent place to build from.
