Extreme Management Group (EMG), home to bands like Suffocation, Atheist, Rings of Saturn, and more, has announced their partnership with Texas death metal band A PRETEXT TO HUMAN SUFFERING.
A Pretext to Human Suffering is an explosive modern death metal band, defying genre boundaries and delivering a unique mix of slam, traditional hardcore, beatdown, technical death metal, and deathcore. Founded by Chris Mathis as a solo project in 2019, APTHS quickly caught the attention of the metal world with the release of their debut single “No Light Lives” on July 3rd, 2020. The track’s intense energy and captivating sound quickly garnered the attention of several record labels, and the band eventually signed with the renowned Reality Fade Records.
Adding to their already formidable lineup, APTHS welcomed Wes Van Hook (Sold Soul, ex-Lord of War, Inhuman Atrocities) and Beto Vipe (Devour the Unborn, Defleshed and Gutted) in early 2020. Together, they released the previously written and recorded EP “Rotting Sanctum” on November 27th of the same year, featuring new member Wes Van Hook and other talented session players. In 2021, APTHS acquired bassist Spencer Atkinson-Del Puppo (ex-Cryptic Enslavement), who had previously played with Chris in another band. The group began collaborating on what would become their debut album, “Endless Cycle of Suffering.”
On February 25th, 2021, APTHS dropped their first collaboratively written single, “cult(ure),” offering a glimpse into the band’s evolution and growth. The track is a punishing and ominous testament to the band’s unique sound, hinting at the intensity of the forthcoming album. In 2023, APTHS began releasing singles from their full-length album, starting with “Void” on January 12th, followed by “Endless Cycle of Suffering,” “Formless Collective,” and “Paradox” in monthly succession. Each track showcases a different facet of the band’s sound, yet they all blend together seamlessly, creating a dynamic and cohesive listening experience.
With thousands of plays and a rapidly growing fan base, APTHS has become a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. Their music is a visceral and unrelenting onslaught of brutish chords, frenzied arpeggios, explosive percussion, and guttural growls. The band’s sound is both maniacal and majestic, featuring intricate fretwork, dissonant melodies, and haunting solos that evoke the torment of ghosts. As the band continues to evolve and push boundaries, fans can look forward to more exciting releases and electrifying live shows.
