APPEARING AT ARCTANGENT FESTIVAL ON AUGUST 14TH + NEW UK/EU TOUR DATES

Thank by Summer Crane

Today, Leeds-based noise makers Thank share their highly anticipated, full-throttle single, “Writing Out A List Of All The Names Of God” along with the news of their signing to Big Scary Monsters.

Thank is made up of Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe (vocals/guitar), Cameron Moitt (bass), Lewis Millward (guitar/synth), and Steve Myles (drums). Their unique blend of noisy, internet-poisoned, dancefloor fillers have built them a cult following with a diverse range of devotees including BBC Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq, The Needle Drop’s Anthony Fantano, The Quietus, Bandcamp Daily, Loud & Quiet, IDLES, Yard Act, PigsX7, and even comedian Frank Skinner.

The band have sold out numerous headline dates across the UK and are set to perform at this year’s ArcTanGent festival at the end of August. Their exhilarating new single, “Writing Out A List Of All The Names Of God,” continues to live up to the high praise they’ve received so far.

Thank’s concoction of anxious disco grooves, harsh noise freakouts and inscrutable sprechgesang bluster was borne out of their hometown’s notorious – and now sadly defunct – DIY collective CHUNK. After the release of their debut full-length “Thoughtless Cruelty” in 2022 and a smattering of EPs and split releases, the band are ready to bring their journey into a new era.

Their first release with Big Scary Monsters, “Writing Out A List Of All The Names Of God” was recorded in Scarborough’s Beckview Studios with long-time producer Rob Slater (Blacklisters, Mush). The track perfectly encapsulates why the band earned the praise that they have: breakneck, jungle-inspired drumming, discordant guitar lines, and tortured commentary fill out a firm foundation of abrasive synth noise. The band has described the song as “a diss track” yet has an uneasy urgency to it, with lyrics inspired in part by a desperate and hopeless desire to retain the memories you hold closest to you in your declining years.

Speaking on the track Vinehill-Cliffe says “I think the recorded version might actually be the first time we successfully played the whole thing through.” He continues “It’s a diss track, in response to another diss track – noise rock as a genre needs more diss tracks, I feel (see The Jesus Lizard – Mouth Breather). It’s also loosely based on something I saw pinned up in my grandpa’s study one of the final times I visited before he moved to a nursing home, he had handwritten a list of different names used to refer to God, I guess because he had become so forgetful and this was something he specifically didn’t want to forget.”
