Is music just another form of communication? Merely entertainment? Or does it have the power to unearth forgotten truths buried deep within our souls, as if all souls were connected to a singular source of inspiration? Who does music really belong to—the musician, the listener, or the marketplace? In our need to possess, we call it “ours,” but is it truly? Can we claim ownership over radio waves that escape the confines of our world and soar beyond the sky? Is music our creation, or are we merely instruments ourselves, played by unseen hands, giving voice to the Universe?

What happens when music blends with our darkest nightmares? Anguish, fear, rage, desperation—are they the cause or the effect? Just like the incoherent images and words of a nightmare that, though alien and strange, carry a precise message from our subconscious, music can evoke intense feelings. Yet the true meaning woven into its patterns remains elusive, waiting to be deciphered.

With Apocalypse, we sought to convey our vision of the future—which is nothing but a reflection of our present—using the only language a musician truly knows: emotion. Music, like all art, is meant to evoke, not explain. An instrumental track does not become a song simply by giving it a title or narrative; it’s the emotions within that give it life. For those of you willing to delve into the lines of our concept, you’ll find they are merely the rational, simplistic, and prosaic translation of our nightmares.

Imagine a future where humanity is divided between overlords and slaves, where technology has supplanted religion, and nature is reduced to a mere reservoir of energy and raw materials. Society, an artificial construct, teeters on the brink of extinction, kept alive by the relentless engines of war and consumption. This is the world of Apocalypse. Picture the bleak machinery of control, spreading like a plague from planet to planet, biomechanical cathedrals rising from the ruins of dead worlds—life becoming machine, consuming life. A possible future already taking root in our present.

Biography

In June 2018, the genesis of The Giant Baba occurred when Joe Ace (known as Giorgio Pierri), a skilled guitarist, composer, and graduate of the AFAM Conservatory of Music, joined forces with Jason Jackson, a guitarist, composer, and producer. Both Joe and Jason, deeply passionate about post-rock, metalcore, and experimental music, sought to craft a distinctive musical endeavor firmly rooted in the realms of progressive metal and djent.

Completing the ensemble was Sigfrido Percich, a multifaceted drummer renowned for his mastery of the instrument, having graced stages at prestigious international festivals such as Bang Your Head, Keep it True, and Veruno Prog with bands like Adramelch, Heart of Sun, VIII Strada, and Moon of Steel. Together, their vision was to harness the commanding presence of 8-string guitars, blending baritone and mid/high range tones, alongside a dynamic fusion of rhythmic jazz-rock and post-metal elements. The aim? To transport listeners on an odyssey through a musical abyss, propelling them into celestial realms where conventional notions of time, logic, and rules dissolve.

Their sonic palette, enriched by reverbs, delays, distortions, polyrhythms, and virtuosic performances, creates a tapestry of space and dreamcore sounds, guiding the audience through an interstellar voyage known as The Giant Baba. Following the success of their recent single, “The Extinction Awareness,” The Giant Baba is currently immersed in the creation of their debut album, slated for release in 2024.
