Within Silence are a Power Metal band from the eastern Slovakian city of Košice. Their debut album ‘Gallery of Life’ was released one year after the band was founded in 2014. ‘Return from the Shadows’ followed two years later. Both albums were released on the Swedish label Ulterium Records. For both, musicians received very good feedback from fans from all over the world. They played many concerts in Slovakia as well as in Europe. However, fans had to wait seven years for the third album ‘The Eclipse Of Worlds’. Now the album will finally be released in December.

Oh yes, the opening song ‘Land Of Light’ already clearly shows where things are heading – melodic, catchy Power Metal, very close to the mainstream. This doesn’t change much on ‘Divine Power’ either. Clear vocals, lots of pressure from the guitar and drums. And a very melodic guitar solo to match. The title track ‘The Eclipse Of Worlds’ is a little overlong with a playing time of just over seven minutes. Guitars and drums ensure a high tempo. The tempo is also kept high on ‘The Treason’. The riffs are literally galloping. A fast guitar solo is played to match. ‘Storyline’ is a wonderful power ballad and provides a short breather. Singer Martin Klein is able to demonstrate his vocal skills here. The whole thing is underpinned by keyboard tapestries. For me, the guitar solo is the best on the album. ‘Battle Hymn’ starts quietly with clean guitar sounds. But then it kicks off again. And as the title promises, it’s a Metal anthem. The choruses provide plenty of epic bombast. Another high-speed neckbreaker follows with ‘The Broken Thorn’. Epic guitar sounds are the introduction to ‘The Mist’. This anthem also remains epic for long stretches later on. The final track is the overlong ‘When Worlds Collide’ with a playing time of twelve and three-quarters minutes. After a calm introduction, things get punchy and rhythmic later on. This song is characterised by strong guitar solos, lots of anthemic epics and catchy choruses that are easy to sing along to. Ballad-like moments of calm alternate with high-speed Power Metal and already mentioned anthemic epics. As a result, this song doesn’t seem boring despite its long playing time. This is the absolute highlight of the album and shows the variability of the Slovakians.

With ‘The Eclipse Of Worlds’, we hear a good album from Within Silence. The band is bursting with enthusiasm. What we hear here is certainly not a revolution in Power Metal, but musically very well done. Sound mixer Matt Smith (Theocracy) and above all Jacob Hansen (mastering) have enriched the production. Not to forget the extraordinary artwork by Jan Yrlund.
