Ephemera – it’s a word meaning ‘things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time’ – and when Ephemera the band were formed, as an outlet for lockdown frustrations by a group of friends, they chose the name with exactly those ideas in mind…nobody expected this thing to grow in the relentless fashion that it has. However, after three years, three EPS and three singles – all of which have been playlisted by DJ Alyx Holcombe on BBC Radio 1 – Ephemera are about to unleash their most powerful, thought provoking and accomplished EP to date, For Those Afraid To Die.
Fusing hardcore, metalcore, melodic awareness and an overwhelming passion, Ephemera have created a sound that is all their own and that originality really comes to the fore throughout the maelstrom of emotion that is For Those Afraid To Die. From the fantastically atmospheric instrumental opening of ‘Origin’, through the layered onslaught of ‘For Those Afraid To Die’ where subliminal melodies work threads of melancholy reflection through raw and bloody fury, on to the musically adventurous ‘Heaven’ – featuring a fearsome vocal display from guest Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage – and the intimidating force of final devastating sonic statement, ‘House Fire’, Ephemera wring every last drop of energy and emotion from the listener with the absolute intensity of their performances. Wherever you may decide that Ephemera belong on the musical spectrum, the determination, integrity and unflinching honesty of For Those Afraid To Die is undeniable.
The bruised and bloody sounds of For Those Afraid To Die were captured,
in all their vital violence, with the assistance of Beauty School guitarist Grant Beeden Clayton and the results are incendiary. With the addition of some intriguing cover art, open to any number of interpretations, For Those Afraid To Die is one incredible package that will send shock waves through the underground music scene. In alliance with Morning Star Heresy Music Group, Ephemera return on February 12th…prepare for head on collision with a band that will never back down!
