Los Angeles classic Heavy Metal band REOG drops the music video ‘Not my Way’ featuring never released footage from their Indonesia tour.
Los Angeles based Indonesian-American Heavy Metal band REOG saw its 2024 tour of Indonesia as much more than a chance to play a few shows to some of the biggest rock and heavy metal fans. With the tour, the band hoped to both dive deep into Indonesian culture that lends the band its name (Reog is a legendary traditional dance and festival from the Ponorogo region of Java), as well as to share it with those less familiar with the country. For Indonesian born front man, Sammy T, it was more than just a homecoming, it was a chance to explore deeper into areas he had not been and gain deeper appreciation of his background. For bassist Ralph Beam and drummer Jon Asher, it was their first chance to see the country. It also was where the band first had the chance to collaborate with Indonesia lead guitarist Bay Guitaro.
Over the course of the tour, the band met and stayed with locals in Java, Bali and the kingdom of Yogyakarta (Jogja). The shows they played varied from sharing a festival stage with the great Indonesian rock legends, Superman is Dead (SID) to small roadside bars frequented by bands from the popular Rockabilly scene and local cover bands.
While the band has already released two music videos ‘Daily Grind’ and ‘Island of the Gods’ that highlight the country’s lush history, folklore and landscapes, footage collected from the shows themselves presented an opportunity to present a third video highlighting the experience playing for the fans themselves. Showing the wild, the epic, the sometimes quiet and intimate moments, the music video ‘Not my Way’ captures the tour from an angle not yet seen.
The song ‘Not my Way’, previously released as part of REOG’s late 2024 self-titled album, is another hard hitting number capturing peak REOG, with a blistering thrash metal influenced guitar riff, a catchy chorus, and an epic melodic breakdown. Video footage captured under the direction of Novi Hartoyo, a well known Indonesian music video producer/director.
REOG is available for shows, festivals and/or tours in 2026.
