Eternity ‘To Become The Great Beast’

Album Review By Adam McCann

Soulseller Records/Black Metal

It has been 13 years since Eternity last graced the black metal airwaves with ‘Bringer of the Fall’, the Norwegian band’s debut album. Since 2006, Eternity have kept their heads down, keeping themselves busy with live shows, but thankfully, this year has the black metal band releasing their sophomore album ‘To Become the Great Beast’.

The 13 years of time have not dulled the fangs of Eternity and thankfully, ‘To Become…’ has been certainly worth the wait; driving tremolo rhythms, powerful blast beats and grim, guttural vocals make this album exceptionally fun to listen to with tracks like ‘Te Nostro Deum Sathanas’, ‘In Subspecies Aeterna’ and ‘Bringer of the Fall’ having all the enjoyability and black metal magic of the second wave of black metal, appealing to fans of both Mayhem and Darkthrone in their prime.

Although ‘To Become….’ Is very fun to listen to, it does struggle to be memorable, with many of the black metal passages seemingly blending into one. However, with a wall of sound approach, who cares, when this album is played, it is blisteringly good, it is the fire which burns in the blackest night and does its best to keep the true flame of black metal alive. Trve Kvlt indeed.
