Norway’s Sundrowned have just unveiled a new song titled “Ilex”, the third single from their upcoming album Higanbana, now playing at Heavy Blog Is Heavy. The site praised the track, stating: “Sundrowned’s signature alchemy of contrasts melts into black metal fury without ever losing sight of the song’s sparkling warmth. The light becomes brighter because of the darkness, enveloping the mind and the ear without crushing.”

Four years after the release of their critically lauded debut Become Ethereal, Sundrowned are set to return on September 26 with Higanbana, an album that pushes their unique blend of post-metal power and shimmering ethereal melody into bold new horizons.

On Higanbana, the band continues their conceptual exploration of the human condition through the lens of classical alchemy, this time reflecting on the cycle of life itself: how death nourishes the earth, giving rise to new life. Musically, that theme finds its echo in the record’s journey, from barren stillness into lush, melodic passages that evoke rebirth, wonder, and introspection.

Higanbana was written by J.A. Piscopo & G.L. Innocent, produced with Ørjan Kristoffersen Lund and Morten Fjeld, recorded at Bridge Burner Recordings in Stavanger, with vocals tracked by Tom Poole Kerr at Green Engine Recording. The final mix and mastering were handled by Morten Fjeld, ensuring the album resounds with clarity and power.

Pre-orders are now available at this location.
