“Begged for a prophet, kneel and repent, dressed for the rapture, dressed for the end”

Today, New Jersey deathcore vampire ERIC RAVEN unleashes his RTF Records debut EP Sisyphus In Distress, alongside an official music video for its title track. Known for his raucous live shows throughout the eastern seaboard, supporting premier names like VoshThe ShapeBlu Anxiety, and Academy OrderEric seeks to give ravers, moshers, and outcasts alike a place of refuge to dance, share, and scream.

Sisyphus In Distress” explores the helplessness of modern times, and the endless stream of pain many must endure daily. It condemns praying and hoping for some sort of salvation, whether that be in politics, religion, or in romance, as those create just one more boulder to roll. With this track, Eric demands that listeners actualize their agency, and create the world they’d like to live in, instead of waiting for someone else to do it for them. Directed by Eric and edited by Eduardo Ruiz, known for his work with Lorna ShoreKaonashi, and Millionaires, the video features a Blaire Witch-found footage aesthetic, amplifying the urgency of the already desperate track.

Eric says about the title track:

“We wanted to capture resilience, a primal urge to keep on going despite the obstacles. This was the second song Gabe and I started to work on. It started with the opening synth, a resting heart beat picking up speed and anxiety to the explosive chorus that holds as the statement for the song. ‘Pushed to the limit, do it again.’ We were very influenced by RammsteinVein.fm and Motionless in White for this track. Despite our heavy music obsession we wanted to add a dance part to it. I’m pretty into the hard techno, goth scene and I like songs that you can both get your aggression out and dance to at the same time.

Following Eric’s two independent releases, Shape Of Pain (2023) and For Vanity Purposes (2024), Sisyphus In Distress was independently recorded, mixed, and mastered by himself, featuring writing partner Gabe Kazaks’s (Conduit & Lucky You) first collaborations. With his first release with renowned New Jersey Hardcore label RTF RecordsEric joins the ranks amongst Black KitesFury of Five, and Jukai and modern upstarts like Buffout and XL Bully

Eric on Sisyphus In Distress:

“This record and the title track captures suffering in various ways. Feelings of anger, desire, longing and love in a time where nothing seems to make sense. A time where everyone you know is struggling. Sisyphus in Distress and the record are both theses on how we keep on going when these thoughts and feelings arise.”

Exploring themes of love and loss in the context of our ever deteriorating world, Sisyphus In Distress reaches out to those whose dying dreams still cling to life. Whether it’s the ferocious fire stoker “Fix Your Hearts or Die” and its message of maintaining honor despite those in control existing in a constant state of hypocrisy or “St. Andrew’s Cross” and its urgent message of leaving nothing on the table, and living life to its fullest, Sisyphus In Distress seeks to inspire listeners to take control of their lives, becoming agents of their own destiny.
