What was the beginning point for your music career? How did it all start?
Wow, first everything came to me, to be a singer when I was 10 years old and I heard Ozzy Osbourne for the first time, then it hit me: “I want to be a singer” then over the years I became a huge fan of King Diamond and there was the style I was searching for, something dark, something evil, something beyond what other heavy metal bands have said or lived. I have a huge background of everything you can imagine and things that are even hard to believe but I’ve been through hell and back. And I can say, the only medicine in the world which keeps me going on alive is doing music, creating shows mixing music and theater and being a shock rocker with his shock metal band (we say shock metal because we’re a heavy/thrash metal band with also some death metal and black metal parts here and there so we’re intense). DarkFlow is the beginning of my real musical career. I had a band in Chile called Erradic where my stage name was created: Sean Horror. Then I came to live in Switzerland and I joined a post metal band called No Sun In San Francisco, with my real name (which I will not share). I left after our first album and tried to start my solo career “Sean Horror” alone but it was impossible, other musicians wanted to be included in a band and not in a solo project so instead I talked with my best friend Flow which we know each other since a year after I arrived in Switzerland and then we said “okay let’s do a song together and that’s all”…. DarkFlow was born and here we’re. Playing and doing albums and very great collaborations.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
It’s music, so music you have to maintain it alive, and it’s been since 2023-2024 very great years but I had to take this year out. I am healing from surgeries and really horrible things that my body is experiencing after being diagnosed with a severe neurological disorder. But we will be back in 2026 with strength. Also the musical business is hard but I am in discussions with some major labels and many things.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
I would say when we played a festival in Geneva, I’m sorry I don’t recall the name but everyone was singing along and having a blast with DarkFlow’s show and that was a very powerful moment, to see people happy because you’re doing something that brings them happiness
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Well theater and metal music, rock and roll vibes between the bandmates. We’re humble people but with potential and dreams so we give everything onstage as also composing and writing my lyrics. The important thing to know is the lyrical part is really important to understand our conceptual albums.
What is your creative process like?
Every album is different but for “Imminent End” the writing process was very much a whole work, we produced this album with Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) and we worked from the scratch to the end together. Flow (DarkFlow’s guitar player and composer) worked directly with him except for some titles that were done solely by Flow and others with Andy, also there’s a song called “Press The Button”, a song
done with an incredible musician called Ed from a Swiss thrash metal band called “Algebra”. Flow and I are fans of their music.
So the music started and I was having a lot of health issues so I had to leave Flow composing, then I came back to write and compose my voice lines and then we went to Sonic Train Studios two times. One for the band to record and the other for me to record the voice. So everyone had time and experienced working with Andy’s studio. Then he mixed and mastered the album. Which has a very satisfying result.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Make people listen to a whole album, make people pay for music and not apps that give music free away. Producing a good album takes thousands of euros and then you pay a distribution entity that will put your music on Spotify, and if you’re not there you don’t exist… people they don’t buy albums anymore and they pay less attention to the music, before you bought an album with the money you had as a lad and you heard it many times until you got it inside you, some albums I could say that I bought back in the 90’s I couldn’t bare them, but others blew my mind and I was with a discman always hearing that album until I got the next one. I would have loved to be born in the 70’s so I could have had vinyls and heard more than just cds. But well every decade has its things now it’s how you adapt to those changes.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Don’t be fucking idiots and start a band full of ego, be humble and do it because it makes you happy and it makes people happy.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
This question is impossible for me to answer. I am very happy with every show we did, I am very thankful of many people who put us where we’re now and I hope it doesn’t stop, and if it does, well we achieved our major goal, doing something with all the joy in the world.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
I was a professional in marketing, a good one then covid came and I lost my jobs because I was freelancer with many clients in restaurants, social events and festivals. Everything got away in a second with covid. So now I’m just a musician, before I was two things, now I am one.
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
DarkFlow is a very unique and authentic band, go and have a listen it will bring you feelings, there’s a lot of mix of reality and fiction in my lyrics and the music it’s very amazing. Flow is a genius and I can really say that my lyrics are very graphically scary.
