Birds of Nazca is an instrumental duo from Nantes, France, blending stoner, heavy psych, and doom since their formation in 2019. Comprising Guillaume on guitar and Romuald on drums, the band crafts a massive wall of sound, without bass or vocals, driven by hypnotic riffs and atmospheres that shift from crushing heaviness to ethereal textures. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2020, was praised by the specialized press for its powerful sonic layers and marked the beginning of their singular instrumental journey, merging doom density, stoner groove, and post-rock expansiveness. Often compared to Pelican or My Sleeping Karma, Birds of Nazca also acknowledge the early impact of Queens of the Stone Age, while asserting their own vision of the genre : minimalist, instinctive, and immersive. With their 2023 EP “Héliolite”, the duo deepened this approach through longer tracks built around soaring crescendos and shamanic patterns, earning enthusiastic acclaim within the independent heavy psych scene. In 2024, the band stood out live at Supersonic (Paris) and Westill Fest, sharing the stage with Monolord, Orange Goblin, and Slomosa, further cementing their place in Europe’s instrumental stoner landscape. Their new album, “Pangaea”, is set for release on October 3, 2025.

“Pangaea”, is a journey into the heart of the Earth and its fascinating landscapes. Each track transports the listener to a unique place, whether it’s the frozen lands of “Batagaïka”, the desert expanses of “Racetrack Playa”, or the sacred mountain “Gang Rinpoché”. On “Pangaea”, the duo unleashes a heavy, enveloping wall of sound where psychedelic passages intertwine with crushing doom riffs and hypnotic stoner grooves. The album plays with contrasts, between raw power and subtle nuance, creating a dense and captivating atmosphere. Each composition unfolds like an expanding wave, immersing the listener in a wild yet finely crafted journey, echoing the telluric forces that inspired the project. The title reflects the idea of an original unity : a world still whole, but also the fusion of guitar and drums. Through an organic, dense, and vibrant sound, the band explores the instinctive chemistry that has fueled them since their beginnings. Recorded live, “Pangaea” captures the duo’s raw energy and immediate synergy. For this album, Birds of Nazca pushed production further, honing every detail to create a coherent and powerful whole, stripped of any superfluous ornamentation. “Pangaea” is both a rising surge of intensity and a bold affirmation of identity, a solid monolith shaped from the very matter of sound.
