The press release speaks of ‘mesmerizing groove riffs and fiercely enchanting vocals’ on the new EP ‘Sorceress’ by the Rock band Beast Eagle from Omaha (Nebraska). The band was founded in 2019. The album ‘Loud at Flat Black Studios’ was released in 2021. However, it is listed as a demo in the Encyclopaedia Metallum. A self-titled EP followed two years later. Another EP entitled ‘Sorceress’ is planned for November this year.

The riffs on ‘Sharp Tongue’ bang right from the start. Kate Lewis sings with a slightly snotty voice, which goes very well with the hard riffs. But she can also sing clearly. Later, drummer August Sievering drives the band forward. The guitars also sound heavily distorted on ‘The Dead Follow’. Driven by the rhythmic drums, the riffs are fired off almost every second. Kate now sings a little darker. The vocals in ‘Send Me Down’ sound a little weird in places. And Kate Lewis can even take it a little deeper. In contrast, ‘Witch Hunt’ is a little more melodic. Although the vocals seem a little squeezed out from deep within. The final song ‘The Demonstration’ is once again riff-driven. Kate shows that she is particularly comfortable with the lower pitches

I have to admit, I would have imagined something different under ‘fiercely enchanting vocals’. There are always slightly dissonant tones to be heard. But of course, these fit in well with the groovy riffs. The Alternative Rock of the quartet from Nebraska is not easy to listen to. The band cannot be pigeonholed and therefore offers an interesting splash of colour in the Rock scene.
