A powerful fusion of orchestral grandeur, modern hard rock, and melodic metal – delivering epic soundscapes rich with emotion, atmosphere, and intensity.
These words introduce the press release for the album ‘Shadows Of The Dying Light’ by the northern Swedish band Sarayasign. It also enthuses about thunderous riffs, captivating melodies and a haunting atmosphere. The debut album “Throne of Gold” was released in 2022, followed one year later by “The Lion’s Road”. These were the first two chapters of a larger saga full of prophecies, destiny and powerful soundscapes. The third chapter of this saga now follows with ‘Shadows Of The Dying Light’. Jakob Herrmann (Devin Townsend, Evergrey, Europe) once again recorded the drums at the renowned Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg; while mixing and mastering were entrusted to the legendary Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Denmark.
After some brief sound playfulness, the mid-tempo anthem ‘Worlds Apart (Shadowlands)’ provides a powerful opening. Hard guitar riffs and punchy drums accompany Stefan Nykvist’s outstanding vocals. He can easily keep up with the level of his instrumental section. ‘Watching It Burn Away’ starts with piano and strings. But here, too, the musical power soon kicks in. Another great anthem with a very good guitar solo. The fast and melodic ‘Shades Of Black’ is followed by the title track ‘Shadows Of The Dying Light’. This is again introduced by sound experiments (an unpleasant beeping). A beautiful power ballad with a huge guitar solo. The beeping continues in ‘Shades Of Black’, less disturbing than before. Sarayasign once again prove their knack for beautiful melodies. They also show this in the following songs, such as ‘The Wanderer’, ‘One Last Cry’, ‘The Nameless Ones’ and ‘Walk Alone’. In between, we can enjoy another power ballad with ‘Coming Home’. Singer Stefan Nykvist is alternately accompanied by electric piano or full guitar power. After the Rock banger ‘Bleeding Hope’, the album ends with the eight-minute epic ‘Throne Of Gold Part III – The Hidden Portal’. The first two parts of ‘Throne Of Gold’ appeared on the previous albums. Outstanding guitar solos create a very epic atmosphere.
I can fully agree with the quote from the press release. With ‘Shadows Of The Dying Light’, Sarayasign have released a very good album. With this album, the musicians are on a par with the big Power Metal bands from their home country, such as Dream Evil, Axenstar, Twilight Force or Hammerfall.
