Doomherre are a Doom Metal trio based in the Swedish capital Stockholm. The band was formed in 2021 and has apparently been playing with the same line-up ever since. All three musicians bring a huge amount of experience gained from playing in other bands. Their debut album, ‘Bonegoat’, came out in 2023, as well as a bunch of singles. Their second full-length studio album, ‘Plaguelords’, is set to drop at the end of November.

‘Serpent Shrine’ rocks off unusually fast for Doom. It is somewhat reminiscent of the epic Doom of Black Sabbath or Candlemass, but with slightly less deeply tuned yet still heavily distorted guitars. The tempo is similar on ‘Stormfather’. On ‘Wrath Of A Mountain God’, you first hear heavy rain and some battle chants. The tempo is also slowed down a little. A classic Doom atmosphere emerges. This is crowned by a short guitar solo. And it continues in this style with ‘Hymn For Helios’. The guitars sound even more distorted in places. In the ballad-like and instrumental ‘Blodregn (Sabbatsberg II)’, we hear clean guitar sounds accompanied by a deep bass line. The song is much calmer. In contrast, the riffs on ‘Dark Hand’ are almost majestic. Here, too, the Swedes take a somewhat calmer approach. It remains calm but gets heavier with ‘Dead Ship Bay’. Once again, battle cries can be heard. The title track “Plaguelords” follows shortly before the end. The tempo picks up again. Right at the end, the guitars are played clean again on ‘This Burning Guilt’, alternating with heavy riffs.

Fans of the aforementioned bands should take note of the name Doomherre. On ‘Plaguelords’, they play flawless Epic Doom Metal. Not quite as raw, but with varied songwriting. We can certainly expect a lot more from the Swedes in the future.
