Supralunar are a Swedish Hard Rock trio, presumably founded in the early 2000s by singer, guitarist and keyboardist Petri Tuulik. Two albums have been released so far – ‘A New Hope’ (2014) and “Ghosts” (2018). After that, things quietened down for the band, except for the EP trilogy ‘Lost & Found’. The third full-length album, ‘Dead Come To Dance’, is now planned for release in February this year.
The opener ‘Bit By The Bug’ is pure Rock’n’Roll at its finest. The title track ‘Dead Come To Dance’ is driven by guitar riffs and is a little slower. The vocals are clear and powerful. Things get even quieter with the ballad ‘Whispers In The Wind’. The vocals are accompanied by acoustic guitars and subtle drumming. ‘Leviathan (Power To Reason)’ picks up the pace again. The chorus has a very catchy melody. ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ is a great Hard Rock anthem, bordering on a ballad. It features some heavy riffs, but also quiet guitar chords. The Rock’n’Roll guitars come through again on ‘Picture In Your Head’. ‘Straight Into The Sun’ is the next mid-tempo anthem. And so, it continues, with catchy hard rock songs (“Ashes”, ‘Heavens Gate’) alternating with Rock’n’Roll (“So Long”, ‘Justice Be Done’).
‘Dead Come To Dance’ is an entertaining Hard Rock album. The focus is clearly on having fun with the music. And this enthusiasm is transferred from the band to the listener. Sure, Supralunar haven’t reinvented Hard Rock. But they have recorded it solidly.
