The City and The Church, a dark pact between Brazilian guitarist Bruno Rios (Paranoia Church) and Swedish riff architect Leonard Hansson (Vulture City), invades from above with their debut single, ‘Bishop to Knight Four’, a descent into paranoia and terror inspired by John Carpenter’s 1982 masterpiece, The Thing.
Set in a frozen landscape where isolation breeds suspicion and fear, ‘Bishop to Knight Four’ blends traditional heavy metal with cinematic storytelling, invoking acts like King Diamond and Annihilator. The track explores the downward spiral that unfolds when trust becomes a dangerous gamble, and the true horror may already be closer than you think.
Leonard Hansson recorded all lead and rhythm guitars, while Bruno Rios handled bass, keys, and additional guitars. Completing the lineup, Greek singer Tasos Lazaris (OneMachine; Steel Arctus) delivers the vocals, while Ecuadorian multi-instrumentalist Fabian Carrión Troya (Paranoia Church; Crypted Roots) handles the drums.
Released on March 27th across all your least-hated streaming platforms, ‘Bishop to Knight Four’ was co-written and co-produced by Rios and Hansson, and mixed and mastered by Polish engineer Maciej “Widek” Dawidek, who previously worked on Paranoia Church’s debut album, ‘Till the Wolves Come Home’.
