UK doom metal outfit GODTHRYMM have announced their highly anticipated third full-length album, “Projections”, set for release on May 29 via Profound Lore Records. With “Projections”GODTHRYMM bring to a close a journey that began with their 2020 debut “Reflections” and continued with 2023’s critically acclaimed “Distortions”. In the years since “Reflections”, the band have steadily built a reputation as one of the most notable emerging acts from the UK’s doom scene, often recognized for channeling the spirit of early-to-mid ‘90s British doom metal – a sound closely associated with genre pioneers such as My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Anathema.

That connection is no coincidence. GODTHRYMM is helmed by veteran guitarist and vocalist Hamish Glencross (ex-My Dying Bride, Vallenfyre, Solstice) and features drummer Shaun Taylor-Steels (ex-My Dying Bride, Anathema, Solstice). With such pedigree embedded in its core, the band’s sonic identity naturally carries the DNA of classic UK doom.

Yet “Projections” is far from a nostalgic exercise. The album sees GODTHRYMM expanding their sound further, building upon the foundations laid by “Distortions”. With an expanded lineup now featuring keyboardist and co-vocalist Catherine Glencross, bassist Bob Crolla, and second guitarist Kris McLaughin“Projections” stands as the band’s most layered, varied, and complex release to date – while still upholding the colossal, emotionally charged heaviness that defines their sound. It also emerges as their most aggressive album yet.

As Hamish Glencross explains: “On this new album we present to you songs that channel our passion, our sorrow, our love, our fury – the very essence that makes us who we are, and we hope you find some kindred reflection in yourselves on this journey. Our first album ‘Reflections’ was a rekindling of our passion and fire for the music we love, the second album ‘Distortions’ took that template and evolved it ever further with grandeur and vision. ‘Projections’ takes everything that has brought to this point, and delves into our very musical souls with the appropriate introspection, diversity and contrasts of our emotions that define us. This is who we are, and we project all of this through our new album.

He continues: “The vision and writing for ‘Projections’ commenced as the recording of the previous album ‘Distortions’ was in its completion. The direction was to push ourselves further in musical scope and complexity, and was then driven further by artistic ambition in a new lineup showcased on ‘The Light’ EP, but also then influenced by life’s challenges and subsequent personal tragedy within the band. The songs are a reflection of love, sorrow and fury which we all feel.

“Projections” was recorded at various stages throughout the last year at different studios with Andy Hawkins and Glencross at the helm. Cover art was done by Mitchell Nolte.
