Ashen Sun, the studio-driven dark gothic rock / atmospheric project led by Johnny Hagel (ex-Tiamat, Sundown, Sorcerer), has released their powerful reinterpretation of Skinny Puppy’s cult classic “Worlock”. The single and official video are now available across all major streaming platforms.
Originally an industrial anthem, “Worlock” has been completely transformed into a darker, more atmospheric and cinematic piece. Stripping away the original’s aggressive electronics, Ashen Sun rebuilds it with layered textures, restrained pacing, moody atmospheres, and dark romantic energy — drawing from the spirit of 90s gothic rock while keeping a modern production edge. The track features a special collaboration with Lucifer’s Aid.
Since its release on April 17, the single has already earned strong praise in the dark music scene. Terra Relicta called it“a brooding, gothic take… transformed here into a brooding, cinematic piece that leans heavily into gothic atmosphere… layered sound design, slow-burn pacing, and a strong emphasis on mood, echoing the spirit of 90s gothic rock”.
