Hear ye, hear ye: even a downtrodden peasant deserves a night off.

Having endured toil, taxation, errant livestock and the everyday indignities of life beneath the crown, NETHERWILDS’ resident peasant hero Worm Chewer returns today with “Helm Yeah,” the latest single from the band’s forthcoming debut album, Peasant Rising, arriving October 9th via King Volume Records.

This time, however, revolution can wait until morning.

Helm Yeah” finds Worm Chewer stumbling from hardship into revelry after a particularly productive encounter with a cask of ale leads to the discovery of a nobleman’s great helm. Naturally, there is only one reasonable course of action: put it on, gather the townsfolk and celebrate like a man whose station has suddenly risen several rungs above the mud.

A rowdy medieval metal drinking anthem built for raised tankards and questionable decisions, “Helm Yeah” offers a more jubilant glimpse into the strange world of Peasant Rising. Beneath the merriment, however, lies the same peasant spirit that runs throughout the album: if the ruling class gets the armor, the castles and the feasts, why shouldn’t the common folk enjoy a little grandeur of their own?

Regarding his latest adventure, Worm Chewer proclaims:

My quest for the goat led me to the bottom of a cask of ale, I must say. But in my drunken stupor I did stumble upon a treasure most rare. Aye, a nobleman’s great helm! And what good is a peasant’s life and if one can’t make merry with his fellows, amid the sorrow and toil? Dress for the job you want to have! Hold my ale, I’ll show you how to frolic with the best of them.

Across Peasant RisingNETHERWILDS weave blackened metal, medieval folk, doom and cinematic atmosphere into an eccentric narrative chronicling Worm Chewer’s transformation from beleaguered laborer into an increasingly unlikely revolutionary. “Helm Yeah” captures one of the saga’s lighter moments, a drunken detour where fellowship, ale and borrowed headgear briefly triumph over the misery of feudal existence.

Produced and mixed by Jesse Turnbull (Dear-God, Doflame), Peasant Rising unfolds as a sprawling medieval adventure filled with mud, monsters, misfortune, rebellion and the occasional triumph of peasant ingenuity. With each song serving as another piece of Worm Chewer’s tale, the album gradually expands from one man’s struggle to survive into something far larger brewing beyond the castle walls.

So fill thy cup, secure thy finest helm and make merry while ye still can.

The uprising will resume shortly.
