The British NWOBHM pioneers Tygers Of Pan Tang were formed as early as 1978. With breaks in 1984–85 and from 1987 to 1999, they have remained active to this day. Thirteen studio albums have been released so far. In addition, there are numerous live albums and EPs, as well as a countless number of singles. Their fourteenth album, “Electrifyed,” is scheduled for release in September 2026.

“‘The heavier, the better’” that was our mantra throughout the writing and recording of ‘Electrifyed’”, singer Jack Meille comments about the writing process of the record. “We wanted to rediscover the pleasure of being driven by the powerful force of a heavy riff without losing that melodic touch all great Tygers songs have”.

Of course, that made me curious.

“Rise Up!” – now that’s a statement. And after a brief guitar and synth intro, the song soars into the finest realms of the NWOBHM. A rousing, groovy song. And it continues in the same vein with “Forevermore.” Powerful guitar melodies, driving riffs and drumming, and expressive vocals. And a crowning guitar solo. Hard-hitting drums – that’s how “The Powers That Be” kicks off. Later on, the guitar riffs and fast-paced solos take center stage once again. All of this is accompanied by a catchy refrain. You just can’t help but sit still – or rather, stand still. The Metal anthem “Dark Divinity” is one of the album’s strongest tracks. The interplay between the two guitarists is especially impressive. The title track “Electrifyed,” with its hypnotic rhythm, is also a highlight of Heavy Metal. Precisely placed riffs, driving drums, and strong guitar hooks underscore Jack Meille’s once again powerful vocals. “A Shadow On Fire” follows as the next metal anthem. The twin-guitar passages – whether riffs or solos – once again drive the singer forward. I’m not sure if the ambient soundscape in “The Nail” was really necessary. But then the mid-tempo song is powered by hard, grooving riffs. The guitar solo also fits the overall mood. A little breather in the middle. On the catchy “The Fight Goes On,” the British band goes full throttle again. Since there’s no denying a slight lean toward the mainstream, the song is AirPlay-ready and shouldn’t be missed on any Rock radio playlist. Explosive guitar riffs and heavy drums kick off “Dark Skies.” Of course, catchy melodies are not missing here either. The closing track, “Revenge Is Sweet,” is a real Metal stomper – hard, rhythmic, and enriched with plenty of vocal and guitar melodies. And it ends with a quiet, melodic closing.

“Electrifyed” is an outstanding Metal album. Tygers of Pan Tang are flying the flag for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal high and proud. And yet the songs don’t sound old-fashioned at all. The sound is clear, powerful, and has just the right touch of modernity. No Rock or Metal fan should miss this.
