Corvoyd ‘Event Horizon’

Formed in 2016, Iranian metal band Corvoyd features bassist Daar and Pedram Niknafs on vocals with the band releasing ‘Event Horizon’, their debut album towards the end of last year.
‘Event Horizon’ is an album which is actually quite surprising; this is an album of decent progressive heavy metal that slaps itself firmly into the classic era of this genre. Yet, this duo keep themselves on their toes with various guest musicians which include Dirk Verbeuren, Andy James, Thomas Lang and Hannes Grossmann, among them boasting bands such as Megadeth, Obscura and Soilwork. This gives ‘Event Horizon’ a certain panache, a je ne sais quoi that makes this album quite good; elements of Fates Warning, Evergrey and Redemption, sit happily alongside sounds that would appeal to fans of, Judas Priest, Symphony X and Armored Saint with Niknafs delivering a performance which is worthy of these revered bands through tracks such as ‘Labyrinth’, ‘Walk Away’ and ‘Beneath’.
However, this album is not just a complete homage to their heroes; there is an individuality which oozes through ‘Event Horizon’ which makes it extremely likeable and it would be difficult to see fans of this genre not enjoying this album.
