DEAFKIDS & PETBRICK: Revolver Magazine Premieres “Sweat-Drenched Wreck” Video As Collaborative Deafbrick Album Nears Release Via Neurot Recordings And Rocket Recordings
As Neurot Recordings and Rocket Recordings prepare for the release of Deafbrick – the collaborative album between Brazil’s DEAFKIDS and the UK’s PETBRICK – a new single has been issued. Revolver Magazine is now hosting the worldwide exclusive premiere of a video for the album’s “Sweat-Drenched Wreck.” Neurot Recordings is handling the album for North America while Rocket Recordings is handling the Euro release.
PETBRICK is the creation of Wayne Adams (Big Lad, Death Pedals) and Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulwax, Cavalera Conspiracy) and more. The band has released several EPs and albums through Closed Casket Activities, Rocket Recordings, and more over recent years, and they have toured and collaborated live with a variety of acts.
DEAFKIDS erupted into the international scene when Neurosis’ Neurot Recordings signed them in 2016. Since then, the label has issued two albums from the trio, and they toured internationally including opening for Neurosis, Bell Witch, Big|Brave, and others across North America, and alongside Rakta, Petbrick, and others in Europe.
Deafbrick‘s “Sweat-Drenched Wreck” single sees release through a tension-fueled video created by Estúdio Holotrópico and Vitor Jabour. Revolver Magazine is hosting the video’s worldwide premiere, writing in part of the song, “London’s PETBRICK – a.k.a. Wayne Adams (Big Lad, Death Pedals) and Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulwax, Cavalera Conspiracy) – make harsh, unpredictable, experimental noise-rock. Neurosis-approved trio DEAFKIDS make self-described ‘noise-punk’ and hail from Cavalera’s homeland of Brazil. Really, it was only a matter of time before the two like-minded entities crossed paths and collaborated.” The popular mag refers to the “Sweat-Drenched Wreck” single as, “a screeching, rattling, buzzing assault on the senses…”
The DEAFKIDS trio writes, “After a tour night of little to no sleep on an overnight flight, we arrived in London and went straight to Wayne’s studio to begin our sessions together, still on that jet-lag-induced, lethargic state, with no pre-thought ideas and a very diminished deadline. As soon as we began recording some ideas, Wayne quickly assembled the skeleton of what would become this track. Watching him creating and editing stuff that fast and with that quality just blew our minds. From that moment we fed on the certainty that something special was being concepted on that unique moment for us. Curious is the fact that Iggor came up with a double stick right there, using a hanger to unite them and record that drum’n’bass hi-hat. This is dancing music, Deafbrick drum’n’bass noise style!”
The PETBRICK duo adds, “This particular tune came from an amalgamation of quite a few strange percussive approaches from Iggor and Marian; Iggor built this excellent pair of drum sticks that was attached together with a coat hanger and a load of gaffer tape, so that he could play a weird 16-beat almost shuffled drum and bass pattern on the hi-hat with one hand. Marian played with his hands on the snare drum as an overdub, so you get a weird percussive element from the snare pattern, Then we dug deep into Douglas’ dub influences also The guitar hook almost has a cool eastern feel to it, so this track really was a mental smashing together of a lot of different, super creative approaches. I love this tune because of this, you can hear each person’s personality coexisting in a beautiful harmony.”

The new decade is only a few months old, and already the only certainty is that certainties have ceased to exist. Yet as we traverse through new and intimidating terrain unfamiliar a short while ago, two collaborators have come together to unwittingly create a record curiously suited to an intimidating and unpredictable new era. Deafbrick, the collaboration between Säo Paulo’s sonic warriors DEAFKIDS and London’s pulverizing duo PETBRICK is a veritable force against adversity, and less a polite meeting of minds than a fiery collision whose impact and incandescence extend beyond the horizon.
The project first came to light by way of a collaboration at Roadburn Festival, which was the result of the friendship between DEAFKIDS and PETBRICK‘s Iggor Cavalera, who had met the band in Brazil. The results run the gamut through a litany of uniformly invigorating audial landscape – this is an arena where DEAFKIDS‘ appetite for lysergic punk-damaged tumult and PETBRICK‘s ventures into dystopian synth-driven soundscapes can happily engage in gladiatorial contest. From the unearthly percussive clangor of “Hyperkinetic Mass Disordert” to the DHR-addled chaos of the paint-stripping “Mega-Ritual,” every second of Deafbrick is infused with malevolent charisma and iconoclastic élan.
Yet perhaps the ultimate destructive moment of this particular demolition derby comes via a thrillingly monomaniacal take on Discharge’s “Free Speech For The Dumb.” Not that it necessarily met the approval of Discharge themselves, who make a cameo appearance on the song’s outro. “I asked them to record some quotes saying how much they hated our version,” laughs Iggor. “One of them even said that Metallica did a better job. That really freaked me out!” Metallica, it’s fair to say objectively, does not do a better job.
