Not many things can keep me up past my bedtime these days but watching the Goatwhore live stream was too tempting to pass.
I was invited to cover the show and to be honest, I couldn’t wait. We all miss live concerts and even a glimpse of the sweaty, adrenalized feeling is much, much needed.
And they delivered more than that. I was curious to see how they’d perform without an audience screaming at them, that was the real challenge; but they screamed at us so efficiently that I had a feeling they were secretly watching me, as I was watching them.
The multi-camera event took place Saturday, January 9th, 2021 at 6:00pm EST. Which was 1 in the morning for me and I hope my neighbors will forgive me.
The live chat on the side had all the spontaneity and community interaction that you’d expect from hardcore fans, plus a few skeptics who wondered out loud if the show was actually live or prerecorded.
I get it. We need the “anything can happen” excitement of a live show and the virtual experience gives us factual existential anxiety. But it felt as real as possible and they did an amazing job performing a strong, raw show, seamlessly bridged with mini clips of the band explaining how much they miss the tour life.
That, I believe. And I sincerely hope they enjoyed it as much as we did, and that they could somehow feel how real our excitement was, scattered in all corners of the globe.
