Greetings from Metalheads Forever Magazine, I’m Keith Clement, the editorial head, it’s a pleasure to connect with you through this Interview, how are you girls doing?
Hi there, Keith! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us and share our story. Aside from of course dearly missing performing live, we are doing well!
Last November you released your second single “You Can’t hurt me now” can you tell me about this single and the story behind this?
(Tanya Venom) “You Can’t Hurt Me Now” is an empowering anthem that tells the story of freeing yourself from a once good situation that has gone bad and summoning the strength to walk out the door, slam it shut, and lock it behind you. The song originates from a breakup experience I had with a toxic person and evolved to represent breaking free of any unhealthy person or situation.
Have you planned on making a full-length album anytime soon?
(Maddie May Scott) We do have plans to put out a full-length Stormstress debut album but the timeline has been pushed because of the world-halting COVID-19 pandemic. Though it might take us longer than expected to get the album out, it is still definitely going to happen.
Can you tell me how it all started for you girls, what made you want to start a metal band?
(Tia Mayhem) Tanya, Maddie and I made up the rhythm section of a rock band that Tanya and I started in 2009 that had been around for about a decade. As the band progressed over time, the three of us wanted to go in more of a metal direction so not long after that group disbanded, Tanya and I reached out to Maddie and we all excitedly began our own heavy metal trio: Stormstress.
I saw one of your videos doing a cover of “Zombie” being a big fan of Dolores and The Cranberries, I would like to ask has Dolores been any kind of influence to you guys?
(Tia Mayhem) As a female in the indie rock/ alt rock scene, Dolores of the Cranberries has done her part to pave the way for future generations of women in music and for that she inspires us. Though The Cranberries are quite far from our genre, their song “Zombie” has always caught our attention as a song that transcends genre with its hauntingly timeless lyrical content and it’s straight up catchy hooks.
Who would be the big influences for you?
(Maddie May Scott) Each of us draw influences from bands across a variety of subgenres of rock and metal but as a band, our top influences are Halestorm and Avenged Sevenfold.
Going forward what would be the further plans for the band?
(Tanya Venom) We look forward to hitting the road as soon as venues are open again and are working on getting the full length album completed in the meantime. We are already in talks with a booking agent about touring Europe, when it is deemed safe to do so, and will be planning several American regional tours as well!
