What was the beginning point for your music career? How did it all start?
All of us had been in other bands previously however I’d say when we started Next Stop Olympus in early 2018 was probably the real start for us as far as a music career goes.
Matt and Conor had spoken about being in a band for years and nothing really came from it but Matt met Josh through a friend and found out he played drums, they started talking about putting a band together then they found Skips on a musician website and ask Conor to come along and we starting working on songs from there, after trying out a couple of people for a second guitarist and them not working out Matt remembered Harry was back from University and that he sang and played guitar so asked him to come along and it all fell together from there.
Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?
Theres all of the usual issues I think when people are in bands, we’re five guys who are all passionate about what we do so there’s all the usual discussions and questioning on if we really want to do it because it’s a lot of hard work but other then that we’ve not really had to many issues yet.
What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?
Conor: Hearing the new EP for me, having it all finished and complete after all the work and it coming out so well.
Matt: Yeah I’d have to say the same, hearing how these songs come out from our initial ideas was really something and the feedback we’ve had is always really satisfying.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
t’s a mix of Metalcore and post hardcore with a twist of rock ’n’ roll, with big chorus’ and catchy riffs to strong melodic moments.
What is your creative process like?
We all write or are involved in the process, normally someone will bring a skeleton of a song, lyrics or even just an idea and then we build it together from there.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
The pay from streaming platforms.
If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?
Conor: it’s worth paying for the production, artwork etc, I really like our first EP but the second EP is a massive step up in the overall production.
Matt: Yeah I’d say the same but remember to enjoy yourselves aswell, everyone takes some stuff way too seriously and forgets to enjoy what you’re doing whilst you’re doing it.
What has been the best performance of your career so far?
Our best performance to date would probably the last show we did on a tour with Chuggaboom in Huddersfield, the support band we’re really cool guys and very welcoming and the crowd was incredible and everyone stuck around for all the bands.
If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?
Well both of us already have careers so we’d probably still be doing that, just with more money.
What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?
Well we’ve just released our brand new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ so we’ll just be pushing that as much as possible so please everyone go check it out! And we’ll be trying to play as many shows as we can now to push it as much as possible.
