All proceeds with be going toward the project and is set for release via Bandcamp on August 6th, 2021.  Pre-orders are available at THISlocation!

The Toronto Prisoner Rights Project is a mutual aid initiative to provide prisoners and ex-prisoners with small monetary grants to help support their needs. The ongoing pandemic has exacerbated the already horrible conditions in the Canadian prison system

The Soviet Influence believes wholeheartedly in equality and justice for all people including those who are imprisoned. Vocalist, Peter Snow states, “As long as some are imprisoned, deprived of their rights, and stripped of dignity and worth by the inhumane conditions of prisons, then nobody is truly free. The treatment of prisoners is a reflection of our society. I have met many people who’ve been through the justice system, and I can’t stand by and watch it inflict trauma on countless people without remorse. That’s why we as a band believe in the mutual aid model of TPRP and that a more caring society can be achieved through community aid.”

Not only has the band taken action in the fight for prisoner rights, but they have also been involved in raising funds for various organizations and charities throughout Canada in support of their belief in equality for all. These donations have been through sales of the band’s music, live stream shows, past compilation albums and out-of-pocket donations.  The organizations donated to include 1492 Landback Lane, Black Lives Matter Canada, Save Toronto Music Venues, Kaleidoscope, Native Women’s Centre, Georgetown Bread Basket, The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, CKMS Community Radio and various other mutual aid requests and gofundme campaigns. To top it off the individual members have also dedicated their lives to helping others. Snow, is a social worker and psychotherapist by trade, helping those with mental illness. Drummer Blake Morey, is training to become an EMT while currently working at a local covid-19 vaccination clinic.
