“A new symphonic black metal LP that is pure ruthlessness. The record is a maximalist study in black metal without mercy.”
- Toilet ov Hell
“With powerful orchestral swells and unnerving interludes punctuating their furious onslaught, Of Lineages Long Forgotten finds a vital ‘sweet spot’ for symphonic black metal. A whirlwind that can’t be resisted.”
- Invisible Oranges
“The entire album and approach to songwriting come across as a hostile war. A continuous volley of arrows, the ever-ringing clash of steel against steel, and the steady rapid-fire of a Gatling gun mowing down your ears.”
- Last Rites
“Of Lineages Long Forgotten is a well crafted and adventurous record that fans of symphonic black metal need to hear and add in their collection.” (9/10)
- Metal Purgatory Media
“A tour de force of Modern Symphonic Black Metal.”
- Metal Noise
“Symphonic black metal needs fresh blood and you’re not getting any fresher than what Katharos are offering on Of Lineages Long Forgotten.”
- Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life
“Katharos has an undeniable energy and bring a fresh mastery of the genre. They’re the embodiment of a modern band reincorporating a classic sound in an influential and respectful manner.” (4/5)
- Metal Epidemic
“Fans of Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and friends can safely purchase this new record by Katharos. The gentlemen are not copycats and guard their own boundaries well.”
- ZwareMetalen
“A well-produced and intelligently constructed record, seething with vicious intent but tempered by moments of restraint and subtlety.”
- Ghost Cult
“Uncompromising carnage, mighty melodies, virtuoso musicians and sick riffs. A powerful album.” (9/10)
- Metal-Only
“Of Lineages Long Forgotten is very well done music with a great Black Metal focus. Excellent album.”
- Metallerium
“Brought into 2022 by the band’s technical and death metal-influenced delivery and execution, Katharos’ symphonic style is very satisfying. Heavily reminiscent of Dimmu Borgir and Emperor in places, but it also stands on its own two feet.”
- Wonderbox Metal
“The songs are built up well and the symphonic is really finger-licking good. Strong album.”
- Musika
KATHAROS’ sophomore album Of Lineages Long Forgotten offers a fresh take on the symphonic black metal genre with complex yet unrelenting arrangements recorded in the legendary Necromorbus Studio (Mayhem, Watain et al.). The album rewards multiple listens without compromising energy or flow (in the vein of Emperor). It is an album that easily flows from epic majestic pieces to blasting infernos. It will draw the listener in with harmony and then deep dive into intriguing dissonance.
The band sums it up most succinctly in stating that “we are very proud of the album, and this recording sets the music in its right aural space.”
