Last year, singer Rioghan Darcy released two EPs. While I liked “Blackened Sky” quite well, “Covers II” didn’t quite convince me. At the time, I had expressed the hope that the debut album would be better. “Different Kinds Of Losses” is to be released this year. In advance, the singer has already published three singles from the album.

The last song to see the light of day was “Sight”. The song starts quietly, Rioghan breathes into the microphone and is initially accompanied only by the piano. Later there is an increase. The rhythm section kicks in punchily, and the vocals also become more powerful. A melodic midtempo rocker. I also listened to the other singles. “Promises” tends towards Metal with partly dissonant sounding guitars and many harsh vocal passages, besides the clear vocals in the singer’s dark timbre. “Breath” is a beautiful ballad.

I have to say, I like these three own compositions much better than anything that could be heard on the cover EP. Although, they are not Rioghan’s compositions. She worked with skilled writers for this, as song writing is not her strength. So, one can be curious about the complete debut.
