What was the beginning pint for your music career? How did it all start?

Hilarious typo aside, Novacrow’s musical journey began on a crisp autumn morning in 2013. Drawn together by a mutual desire to dance like buffoons and out-do each other at every given opportunity, the band immediately began recording demos and performing in their local town of Liverpool, UK and quickly started spreading the good word of Novacrow across the UK like an infectious plague.

Was there any bumps on the road? What kind of challenges did you have to deal with?

There are always bumps on the road, anyone who will tell you otherwise is straight up lying. The biggest problem with starting a creative endeavor such as Novacrow is that there really is no guide to follow, no rules to keep you in check, so there’s a LOT of second guessing you do along the way and so much trial and error. And at the end of it all, we still don’t really know what we’re doing. We’re just running around like headless chickens. Sexy headless chickens.

What was the most fulfilling and satisfying moment so far?

I’d definitely say finishing the masters on our upcoming debut album ‘Look At Me Now’ (which, by the way, you can pre-order now at our website www.novacrowofficial.com) felt sooo good. We had been working on that album starting in March 2020 and we finished the masters in January 2022, so almost two years in the making. We’ve managed to produce a fantastic sounding alum that we’re super proud of despite a worldwide pandemic and national lockdown. Finishing it felt borderline orgasmic.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

We have a very eclectic and varied taste in music, but we’re ultimately drawn towards heavier sounds. We like to blend elements of gothic, industrial, funk, and grandiose into a delicious cocktail of alternative metal.

What is your creative process like?

Freddy and/or Kitty will show each other some demos and then they send project files with adjustments back and forth until there’s something everyone is happy with. That’s generally how we’ll operate, Jonyx is usually there to arbitrate and tip the scales one way or another in case the other two disagree on stuff. That’s just as far as the music goes, however – in terms of everything else (video ideas, merch ideas, content creation) we usually just expand on inside jokes until something comes out of it.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

We’re not fans of the blatant sexism that we encounter from time to time. At the end of the day we’re not exactly a household name or anything, and yet even we have encountered some mind boggling sexism that just kind of makes you question everything you knew about humanity.

If you were asked to give a piece of advice to upcoming bands, what would that be?

Don’t listen to anyone and just do whatever you want. Seriously, nothing attracts people more than authenticity. Except maybe kazoos, people seem to LOVE kazoos.

What has been the best performance of your career so far?

We’ve been fortunate enough to have had some fantastic performances so it’s really hard to pick. That said, maybe our first EP launch back in 2016 was one of the most memorable ones. It was our first time putting on a show like that and we had all sorts of crazy antics and shenanigans going on.

If you didn’t become a musician, what would you be doing now?

We’d probably be succumbing to our most profound depressions and be VERY unfulfilled individuals. Or maybe we’d be running a brothel. Or both.

What is new with the band at the moment? What are you currently working on and would like to share with the world?

Well, I’m glad you asked! We’ve recently released our first single ‘Hollow Armour’ from our upcoming debut album ‘Look At Me Now’, and we’ve got a second single called ‘Day Break’ which should probably be out by the time you’re reading this. Both have beautifully shot videos and showcase the level of excellence you can expect from the rest of the album. WHICH YOU CAN PREORDER OVER AT www.novacrowofficial.com/store RIGHT NOW! We’re also gearing up for next week’s performance over at Bloodstock festival which we are SO EXCITED FOR!
