Review of Dark Funeral – Where Shadows Forever Reign (Century Media)
Where Shadows Forever Reign was released June 3, 20 years after Dark Funeral released their first album. So this is not a new band, this band started in 1993 during the second wave of Black Metal and have had many changes in the lineup, since the start the only consistent member has been guitaris Lord Ahriman, so there have been some changes in the lineup this time also. Heljarmadr of Curse 13 is now the new vocalist, his style reminds me a lot of Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir. One thing this band shall have the credit for is that they have kept it straightforward classic oldschool black metal and have not gone and fallen in the trap and experimented to much.
The album has some really good riffs, some of them remind me a little of Dissector, a good new vocalist and Dominator is a very stable and good drummer. There is three tracks on the album that stand out in my opinion, As I ascend, The eternal eclipse, and Where Shadows Forever Reign. This should be an album that would fit my taste since this is straightforward classic Black Metal. I have to be honest and say I’m very divided when it comes to this album. I found this album a little stereotypic and boring. I’ve been listening through this album several times and it is for me a
average album.
