AUSTERE drop new single ‘Storm within My Heart‘ taken from the forthcoming album “The Stillness of Dissolution

In advance of their upcoming Australian tourAUSTERE premiere the final advance single ‘Storm within My Heart taken from the black & dark metal duo‘s forthcoming new full-length The Stillness of Dissolution“. The band from Wollongong in New South Wales will reveal their new album in full on June 6, 2025

AUSTERE comment: “We wrote ‘Storm within My Heart’ as one of the final songs for the album, and it probably comes the closest to a ‘black metal’ sound”, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Mitchell Keepin explains on behalf of the duo. “Its lyrics hold themes about being tethered and tied under control and, whilst aware of it, unable to break free due to being an honourable individual and holding to one’s own heart. The song depicts a person at battle with himself, yet who won’t yield to his conviction.”

With their fifth album “The Stillness of Dissolution”, AUSTERE embark on a dark journey that leads through the abyss of time, the inevitable return of order to chaos into the black void. In the words of the poet: everything that arises is worth that it perishes.

Following on the heels of “Beneath the Threshold” (2024) that was a defining statement of the musical present and the embrace of their musical future by the Australian duo after their 13-year hiatus and the bridging album “Corrosion of Hearts” (2023). The new album brings an overall blacker feel to their sound. This slight change of course does not constitute an easy nostalgic return to the old days as AUSTERE remain within the framework of the more mature and defined version of their particular style of depressive black metal, which reflects their greater experience and evolution as artists.

As always before, AUSTERE‘s sonic heritage remains alive on “The Stillness of Dissolution”. Their roots in early Norse black metal and its depressive Scandinavian offspring remain clearly audible. This also applies to their more recent evolution into emotive expressiveness and added blackgaze leanings.

AUSTERE arose from a solo-project run by multi-instrumentalist and singer Desolate alias Mitchell Keepin who joined forces with drummer, keyboard player, and vocalist Sorrow aka Tim Yatras in 2005. Signature frost-bitten guitars, alongside high-pitched screams and wails marked AUSTERE‘s debut album “Withering Illusions and Desolation” (2007) as well as the two split-releases “Only the Wind Remembers / Ending the Circle of Life” (with LYRINX, 2008) and “Bleak…” (with ISOLATION, 2008), which AUSTERE reissued partly on the EP “Only the Wind Remembers” (2008). The sophomore album “To Lay like Old Ashes” followed in 2009 and still featured a raw sound but with a refined production.

At this point in time, both musicians decided to focus on other projects and AUSTERE went into hibernation until the duo reformed in 2021. The number of followers had only grown during their absence through word of mouth.

AUSTERE are back in black with “The Stillness of Dissolution”, yet the Australians also keep all the subtle shades of grey that turn the ongoing evolution of their music into a thrilling experience of new sonic spaces of dark matter.
