Awaiting Abigail
Bad Mind
Out: December 21st, 2024
Playing time: 15:16
The Dallas (Texas) based Hard Rock band Awaiting Abigail was founded in 2024. Heavy riffs and thrilling vocals are combined with dynamic arrangements. Two guitars, keyboards and a pounding rhythm section underpin the charismatic vocals of namesake Abigail Hill. The debut EP ‘Bad Mind’ was released in December last year.
‘I Hate You’ starts with a short ringing, then two girls talk. But of course we’re dealing with Hard Rock. Powerful riffs, booming drums and hook lines accompany the expressive vocals of front woman Abigail Hill. Oh, the short talks are repetitive. A guitar solo brings the song to its end. ‘Falling Under’ is quieter. A hymn in which Abigail’s vocals are technically alienated in places. The tempo picks up a little in the second part. ‘People Pleaser’ is a mid-tempo stomper. The guitar echo effects in the background are worth mentioning here. The interplay between the two guitarists is also convincing. The drums provide a powerful rhythm. Together with the bass, it provides a solid, powerful underpinning. And the best is saved for last. ‘Bad Mind’ is a real neck-breaker. You simply have to bang along to it. Hard riffs drive you on. But here, too, Abigail’s vocals take centre stage. Short guitar solos can be heard again and again.
With ‘Bad Mind’, Awaiting Abigail have made their first mark in the Hard Rock world. The figurehead is of course the charismatic voice of namesake Abigail Hill. But what would the best singer be without the support of the instrumentalists. And they showcase their ‘boss’ impressively. Every single song would be worthy of being played on Rock radio stations. But the title song clearly stands out.
