Blackened Brit heavyweights, BAELFYR, set loose their colossal new EP, Empowered By Hatred, which lands on Friday 8th August. Unleashing an engulfing sound that is destined to shake you to your core, BAELFYR were formed in 2023, and hail from Peterborough, England. Comprised of Allan Thomson (Vocals), Harry Mills (Guitar), Tom Mawbey (Guitar), Zak Banson-Noond (Bass), and Lorraine Staves (Drums), the compelling quintet wasted no time in shaping their live set and preparing tracks for recording. By mid-2024, the band, primed and ready for the studio, commenced work with Neil Hudson of Grindfarm Studios to record and release their debut tracks, Disciples and Time, the Great Betrayer. Both tracks threw down a marker for the band, securing extensive radio airplay and industry acknowledgement. Their reputation also began to grow for their live performances, and in turn, so did their fanbase.
BAELFYR continued to push boundaries and in doing so, commenced work on their captivating debut EP, Empowered By Hatred. The band comment about the release: “We wanted to create something that retained the rawness and nastiness of the genre but to pull back on some of the aspects present in modern metal, so you won’t find any shredding solos or 300bpm double kicks. Instead, we’ve made an effort to concentrate on memorable riffs and a meaty, and some might say old school, sound.” BAELFYR have more than fulfilled their brief. The EP is a diverse and thumping slab of powerful blackened metal packed with a slew of intriguing nuances. With a lyrical focus based around mental health, abuse, and the way in which we treat the world, the songs have a potent delivery, and BAELFYR are now ready to launch their manifesto far and wide.
