Behölder from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) released their debut album “In The Temple Of Tyrant” only in April. And they have already followed it up with the EP ‘Tower Of The Broken God’ with two songs. In addition to the new title track, ‘The Dungeons Are Calling’ is a Savatage cover.

‘Tower Of The Broken God’ follows on seamlessly from the songs on the album debut. Perhaps a little more Power Metal, but a little less Doom. Once again, Behölder show that they can write beautifully varied melodies without pandering to the mainstream. Hard riffs dominate the middle section. Thanks to some tempo, melody and rhythm changes, the song has a slightly progressive edge. This gets the listener in the mood for the Savatage cover ‘The Dungeons Are Calling’ that follows. Like the original, this version starts with calm guitar playing and unexcited vocals. The subsequent increase in tempo is also fitting. Jon Oliva’s vocals sound a little rougher. Instead, Behölder’s production is a little more modern and powerful. Nevertheless, this version is damn close to the original. The authentic reinterpretation breathes new life into the classic piece from 1984.

This (mini) EP clearly confirms Behölder’s top class, both musically and in terms of composition (of the new song) and the arrangements of both tracks. Fans can definitely look forward to the band’s next full-length album.
