A forbidding presence on the Australian black metal scene since 2014, Brisbane based Graveir have built a formidable reputation with an EP, two split releases and two incredible full-length albums – 2016s Iconostasis and 2020s King Of The Silent World. The individual and distinctly discomforting blend of skin flaying ferocity, unnerving, warped melody and all-consuming atmosphere, ridden with terror and weighted with dire portent, that characterised these releases, garnered the band a wealth of critical acclaim – and also captivated connoisseur of the extreme, Conor Droney at Apocalyptic Witchcraft. Droney declared Graveir to be a “striking example of the left-field, boundary-defying extreme metal emerging from Australia, often overlooked, yet consistently innovative and unrelenting” and promptly signed the band for the release of their titanic third album – The Festering Triad.
From the opening ‘Lords Of Misrule’, a wretched dance with the dead with a seething magma of panic and threat bubbling beneath its rictus grin, to the merciless denouement of ‘The Rite Of Degradation’ – an apocalyptic collision between infernal majesty and rabid, soul shredding madness – the darkness of The Festering Triad is impenetrable. The blast beats of ‘Revanchism’ hammer at the heart while a voice of absolute command and control summons hungry nightmares from the choking shadows. ‘A Line Of Blood Drawn In Sand’ is the epitome of the fierce, overwhelming power of black metal unleashed, but always with an extra dimension, a jarring twist of wrongness that eats into your innate understanding of the natural order. The drums play a vital role in this invocation of dizzying anxiety, delivering more than just demonic rhythms, somehow adding hues of fear and desperation to the intimidatory palette of pain with which the guitars paint their venomous visions. There is a palpable sense of ill will radiating from tracks like ‘A Thief In The Heart Of Man’…this album means you harm, wants to tear you limb from limb. But this is no simple monstrosity – there’s a vicious intelligence alive behind its hate-filled eyes.

The Festering Triad will be released by Apocalyptic Witchcraft on May 29th, on limited edition Splatter Vinyl, Digipack CD and digital formats – and this new alliance is one that Graveir have high hopes for…
“…the label is artist-focused and there is a shared ethos in working to show what our respective regions have to offer. Extreme metal in the UK and Australia shares some commonalities in that it’s often overlooked and underrated despite turning out some incredible music. We aim to change that.”
The power of The Festering Triad suggests that nothing will stop Graveir achieving their goal.
