CASPIAN RELEASE “FAR COUNTRY” WITH SHORT FILM AHEAD OF THEIR SELF-TITLED ALBUM’S OCTOBER 16 ARRIVAL VIA WAX BODEGA
Caspian, the Massachusetts instrumental post-rock band whose two-decade career has established them as a defining presence in the genre, have released “Far Country” (https://go.mhe.fm/caspian_farcountry), the second and final preview of their self-titled sixth album, due Oct. 16 via Wax Bodega.
“Far Country” visualizer; A film by Luke Webster Brown & Elijah Sussman
“Letting everything but our distortion pedals collect dust for ‘Far Country’ was initially a little frightening, but very quickly became fun as hell,” Philip Jamieson shares. “Stripping not only the song structures themselves, but also the tools used to make them, down to only what was absolutely necessary felt vital for this one, which we hope is emblematic of our current ethos and the record in general.”
“Far Country” follows “Remain,” a nine-minute study in tension and release that marked the band’s first new music in six years. Both songs are accompanied by short films created by Luke Webster Brown and Elijah Sussman.
The band recorded Caspian in the spring of this year with producer Brett Romnes (Hot Mulligan, The Movielife), drawing from the musical vocabulary the band spent two decades developing while resisting the urge to reinvent themselves for reinvention’s sake. Evocative melodies, dense textures, swelling crescendos, and crushing heaviness remain central to Caspian’s sound, but on their self-titled album, the band finds new possibilities within those familiar contours, letting patience, repetition, and instinct carry as much weight as surprise.
