CC Top – the German tribute to ZZ TOP – Hamburg 2018

No other band has influenced blues rock as much as ZZ Top. Even in the first year there were several line-up changes. But since then the trio from Texas plays with the same band members. During their almost fifty-year career, ZZ Top has released fifteen studio albums, with more than 50 million records sold worldwide. One week after the AC / DC tribute CC Top from Uelzen invited to an evening with the biggest hit of ZZ Top in Marias Ballroom in Harburg. The pictures of the evening can be seen on Flickr.
One of the trademarks of ZZ Top are the long beards of Billy Gibbons (guitar) and Dusty Hill (bass). In proper style, the musicians of CC Top had stuck beards on. The musicians also put a lot of emphasis on authenticity, whether the cysts made of Styrofoam on the edge of the stage, the car rims on the bass drums, the internally illuminated microphone stand to the stage clothes.
The first part of the evening began with “Got Me Under Pressure” from the ’83 album “Eliminator”. The setlist also included (almost) all the other creative periods of the trio, from “I Gotsta Get Paid” (La Futura, 2012), “Waitin’ For The Bus” (Tres Hombres, 1973) or “My Head’s In Mississippi” (Recycler, 1990). After the short break three songs from the most commercially successful album “Eliminator” (more than 10 million units sold worldwide) followed. Of course, my absolute favorite songs of the big bushy beards were on the program, “Rough Boy”, Legs “and” La Grange “. At the end of the set CC Top paid homage to another great guitarist, with “Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix. But the musicians could not leave the stage that easily. The fans demanded an encore. True to the motto of the band “The German tribute to ZZ TOP” the encore consisted of two hits of the Texans from the third album “Les Hombres” with (low) German lyrics. This was an amazing end of this really great evening.
