There’s no denying that humanity is circling the drain. We live in a world where truth itself has become a mutable concept, where hatred and violence have become accepted means of social interaction. Respect and rational thinking have been cast into the gutter while greed and ignorance dance in the ashes of hope. This is the reality that Ireland’s Noosed were born into and it’s what feeds the flames of the anger, indignation and defiance that inform their music. Since 2019 they have poured their frustration into a series of EPs and compilations that seethe with a ferocious blend of crust punk, sludge and hardcore, creating songs that present the unvarnished reality that they see around them every day – grim, destructive and bleak. But they face this reality with gritted teeth and raised fists, not bent knees and broken backs – in their words, “humanity is noosed, but we are not yet hanged”. And with new EP Misery they offer up their hardest-hitting manifesto of resistance to date…

Misery opens with ‘This Country’, a sequence of heavy, portentous chords and a stark, simple statement – “I hate this fucking country” – and then we’re catapulted straight into the crust punk anger of ‘Drag Them Out’ and the simple, effective riffs of ‘Fuck The Church’, a direct punch to the face of the hypocritical guardians of morality driven by some superb, instinctive drumming. ‘Fallout’ drops us into some speaker reverberating sludge, before digging its hooks in and unleashing a rhythmic barrage that demands a physical reaction, demands that you get off your knees and fight! ‘Floating Coffins’ is an amalgamation of the detritus of the world, the idiocy and vacuity, subjected to a fierce, cathartic attack, while more outstanding drumming catapults us into the snarling, attitude infused ‘Misery’. Finally, Noosed subject us to the devastating heaviness of ‘No Return’, where crushing music accompanies a desolate narrative about the desperate degradation of drug abuse and addiction. It’s an uncompromising conclusion to a collection of songs that strive to force the bitter reality of our manipulated existence into the consciousness of those lost in a world of endless manufactured distractions.
Misery will be released on May 15th on 10” black vinyl by Road To Masochist. CDs will be available via Throne Of Lies Records, with a cassette version being released by Fiadh Productions.
