LOSERS COME AND LOSERS GO BUT ANTIHEROES NEVER DIE!

Their debut album ‘Veni Vidi Ignis’, released in 2022, was very well acclaimed by the press and fans. And the Swiss band D’OR also proved their live skills time and again, whether at club shows or festivals. The band was probably founded towards the end of 2020 and the follow-up ‘Antiheroes’ has now been completed. This brings us full circle to the opening quote.

The opener ‘Shapeshifter’ already impresses with heavy riffs, hard drumming and great guitar melodies. Against this instrumental power there is a weapon, the powerful vocals of André Dormann. Of course, the guitarists also deliver strong guitar solos. A Metal anthem follows with ‘The Howling’. Bass and drums boom, accompanied by loosely interspersed guitar parts. And polyphonic vocals as a refrain. ‘Scandal’ starts with a powerful bass line. The riffs then set a high tempo. Once again, the guitarists show off their skills with the solos. And the refrain invites you to sing along. We hear a guitar fade in on ‘Her Name Was Alice’. Another Metal anthem in the mid-tempo range. We already heard the above quote ‘Antiheroes never die’ in the opening song. Now comes the title track ‘Antihero’ itself. A rhythmic mid-tempo stomper and rightly namesake. ‘Veleno – Bittersweet’ starts ballad-like, but later moves into the mid-tempo range. The drums in particular drive the singer forward. Once again there is a powerful bass melody and sophisticated guitar work. Where it’s hot, you need cool drinks. ‘Cold Drink In Hell’ offers just that. You can also relax with this anthem. Especially in the ballade-like sections. In ‘Float’, the guitars fry at the beginning. And not only there. Another mid-tempo stomper with an excellent guitar sound. The ‘angry outburst’ ‘Kiss My Ass’ is driven by guitar riffs and fast drums. Fittingly, a higher speed is also used. The high tempo is maintained on ‘Nice To Eat You’. This is probably the fastest and heaviest song on the album. Once again, we hear a powerful bass at the beginning of ‘Disarming Elegance’. This very melodic song is calmer, but without being a real ballad.

It is common knowledge that many good and very good Rock and Metal bands come from Switzerland. With ‘Antiheroes’, D’OR are preparing to compete with their big compatriots such as Gotthard, Krokus and Shakra. With their latest album, they are playing their way into the front ranks of Rock bands from their home country. The Swiss do without pure ballads, but there are a few Metal anthems that are a little calmer. Apart from that, they really let rip. Singer André Dormann’s powerful and raspy voice is a good example of this. It remains to be hoped that the success will also materialise outside their home country.
