North Carolina sludge/doom band DOOMSDAY PROFIT releases scorching new single, “Drive Into The Sun”
“These guys are going from strength-to-strength with their kick-ass songs they’ve released so far and this maybe my favourite track yet.” —Steve Howe, Outlaws of the Sun

Doomsday Profit (Durham, N.C.) is pleased to announce the release of “Drive Into The Sun,” the third in a series of monthly singles leading up to the Sept. 19 release of the band’s self-titled full-length album.
Reflecting on “Drive Into The Sun,” Doomsday Profit frontman Bryan Reed offers the following:
“‘Drive Into The Sun’ is a bit more upbeat than our usual fare — more inspired by stoner-rock and punk. I think of it as something like Fucked Up driving Fu Manchu’s boogie van — right into the sun itself.
“Lyrically, ‘Drive Into The Sun” was inspired by road trips our bassist Ryan and I used to take to the NC coast to go surfing. We’d get up just before dawn, drive east, surf and hang out at the beach all day, then drive west into the sunset — sun burning our eyes in both directions. It felt like a metaphor in line with that quote urging you to ‘find what you love and let it kill you.’ I’ve always loved that sentiment, the motivation to push through hard times and sacrifice for the things that really matter.”

Along with the single, Doomsday Profit has released a video for “Drive Into The Sun” crafted by the creator of “Punk Rock Seinfeld” — a former editor at The Hard Times, and longtime friend of the band — and which premiered yesterday at Outlaws of the Sun.
About Doomsday Profit
There’s no time to waste. At least that’s how Doomsday Profit seems to be operating. After making their debut with the gritty stoner-sludge of 2021’s In Idle Orbit, the Durham, N.C.-based band issued 2024’s psych-leaning split with Virginia-based Smoke, and has kept the momentum going ever since. With their forthcoming self-titled album, Doomsday profit now has embedded an even wider array of influences into their acerbic, dystopian sludge. Particles of monolithic doom, grisly death ‘n’ roll grooves, driving punk rock and scathing black metal all flash in the band’s raw self-titled LP.
As ever, Doomsday Profit has a finger pointed squarely at the powers that be, but they’ve also learned to turn their ire inward, and balance their vitriol with melancholic nuance. This broader approach has turned their already dynamic performances into a must-see, with a live resume that includes Hopscotch Music Festival and Seismic Summer, as well as supporting slots with established acts like Thou, The Obsessed, Black Tusk, REZN, Year of the Cobra, and Restless Spirit.
In 2025, Doomsday Profit will appear at the Asheville Doomed & Stoned Festival in July and Tampa Doom & Gloom Festival in November. Additional live performances will be announced soon.
On this recording, Doomsday Profit is: Bryan Reed (rhythm guitar/vocals), Kevin See (lead guitar/vocals), Ryan Sweeney (bass/vocals), and David Ruiz (drums).
